Kisspeptin-10 kept reproductive hormones raised for 12 days when given in daily pulses
What was studied
Kisspeptin-10 switches on the brain’s reproductive hormone cascade, but continuous exposure to some reproductive hormones makes the body stop responding. Researchers gave kisspeptin-10 infusions in three ways: an 8-hour dose-finding test, a continuous 5-day infusion, and 8 hours a day for 12 days.
What was found
Short infusions raised LH, FSH and testosterone in proportion to the dose. On the continuous infusion, testosterone stayed raised but LH and FSH fell back to placebo levels by day 5. With daily 8-hour infusions, LH was still raised on day 12 (+1.14 against −0.16 with the inactive vehicle), and the receptor still responded to a test dose afterwards.
What it doesn’t tell us
A very small study in healthy men using infusion pumps, measuring hormone levels rather than fertility or any health outcome. It informs how kisspeptin might be developed for reproductive disorders under medical supervision.
